2004 Challenge
The first Orlando Philharmonic Young Composers Challenge was held in spring 2004. Four composition categories were offered: full orchestra, solo and ensemble, choral, and pop. Winning compositions were performed by the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. The 2004 winners were Michael Anderson, who was in the 9th grade at Wellington Christian School. Michael placed first in the category of solo and ensemble and was awarded $200 plus $800 for his school's music program. Sean Breseman, a junior at Seminole High School, won in the category of full orchestra. He was awarded $1,000 and his school received $4,000 for its music program. The winning composers were introduced from the stage of the Bob Carr auditorium at the Orlando Philharmonic's program on May 15.
